A Suite fit for a Royal Princess

A suite is the ultimate in luxury accommodation on a cruise ship.  For some cruisers, it’s the only way to travel and during a recent ship tour of the Royal Princess, I was treated to a nosy around the largest suite onboard – the corner suite.

The Royal Princess took her maiden voyage in 2013 and was aptly christened by HRH The Duchess of Cambridge.

The Royal Princess in numbers

19 Decks

3,560 passengers

1,083 feet long, 217 feet high, 155 feet wide

1780 staterooms (1438 with balconies)

36 suites and 314 mini-suites

My first impression of the ship was that the Royal Princess definitely lives up to her name; her opulent and regal decor makes you feel like your going to be treated like a princess (or prince) as soon as you step onboard and this is reflected in her suites.

There are only 14 corner suites available on the Royal Princess, two on each deck from Deck 8 to Deck 15 and situated at the aft of the ship.  Each are 680 square feet with a huge balcony that hugs the corner of the ship – the balcony is so big, it could easily be mistaken for part of the promenade deck!

The balcony has ample space to comfortably fit sun loungers and an outdoor dining set, perfect for Ultimate Balcony Dining to really make you feel like royalty.

What is Ultimate Balcony Dining?

Available on all Princess cruise ships, the Ultimate Balcony Dining is the chance to enjoy an intimate, romantic dining experience with breathtaking views from your own balcony.  You have your own dedicated waitstaff, who will treat you to cocktails, fresh flowers, champagne and a deluxe four-course meal.  This is also available for breakfast.

Living Area

The living area of the corner suite

As you walk into the corner suite, you initially find yourself in the living area.  Here, there is a writing desk with telephone and seating area with a walk-mounted television, CD and DVD player, complimentary mini-bar (set-up) and fridge.  The sofa can be converted into a bed for guests three and four and this explains the position of the television and the curtain which can be used to divide the living room and bedroom.  There is also a door to the bathroom.

Bathroom

The bathroom is deceptively big, as I stepped into the bathroom from the living area there was a toilet and wash basin and as I moved through it opened into another section, complete with a full bath, walk-in shower and wash basin.  There is another door at the end, which leads to the bedroom.

As someone who has never had the fortune to stayed in a suite or have a bath in their cabin, I think this is one of my favourite features of the suite.  Having experienced inside, oceanview and balcony staterooms with Princess, a bath is the one thing I’ve missed.  Just the luxury of both people being able to get ready at the same time would be a novelty to me!

Bedroom

The corner suite we viewed (R731) had two single beds but it can be configured with a queen bed on request.  The Luxury Princess Beds with their medium firm nine-inch single-sided mattresses have been scientifically-developed by sleep experts to guarantee you a comfortable night’s sleep at sea.  I personally can’t get a pillow at home to rival the ones onboard and am seriously contemplating purchasing some pillows from their online shop.

The bedroom has a door leading out to the balcony and a door to the bathroom.  There is another wall-mounted television in the bedroom so that you can enjoy television programmes and movies from the comfort of you bed.  Suite guests have the added bonus of a complimentary SLEEP by Princess Kit which includes additional sleep-inducing items such as eye shades, earplugs, aromatherapy scents, Dr. Breus’ Good Night™ app and more.  Princess really takes sleep seriously to ensure a good night’s sleep for its suite passengers:

  • You can request for your bed linen to be dusted with lavender
  • Your can select from a selection of calming teas such as chamomile and Dr. Breus’ banana tea as seen on the Dr. Oz Show
  • There is a dedicated SLEEP television channel in your stateroom
  •  There is a personalised pillow and pillow-top menu in your suite, featuring The Dreampad, a pillow that uses patented technology to deliver music through gentle vibration.

Me neither, on my last cruise I had an inside cabin and am not worried about a balcony but this one would be amazing to stay in if I had a extra special celebration, I also like the perks that go with a suite.

Oh, wow! I want to go back. Dining on that balcony would be epic and I long to try out one of those super comfy Princess beds.

Oh wow I’m mighty impressed. A very spacious suite;) The bathtub looks like a normal hotel sized bath, normally they are smaller on ships

    • July 14, 2018 / 10:58 am

The bath was nice, it’s one thing I miss from the other cabins – it’s difficult to shave your legs in the tiny shower cubicles! Female problems!!
