CLIA UK & IRELAND MEMBERS SEND 358 STRUGGLING UK FAMILIES ON A TRIP
Fundraising efforts by CLIA UK & Ireland’s members and supporters will mean that 358 struggling UK families will be able to go on a precious day out at the British seaside or local tourist attraction.
CLIA UK & Ireland partnered with Family Holiday Association, a non-profit organisation who has provided breaks for UK families with issues such as disability, severe and sudden illness, bereavement, mental health issues and domestic violence for over 40 years.
The charity was founded on the belief that breaks away from home are a lifeline, not a luxury.
Donations were fundraised through various events throughout 2018, and more recently a charity bike ride, as nine people took to the saddle to cycle 80 miles from Southampton to the Cotswolds for the CLIA Cruise Forum and Winter Ball. The cyclists were:
- Giles Hawke – UK CEO, Avalon Waterways
- Bernie Carter – senior vice president and managing director, Oceania Cruises
- John Fair – UK sales director, CroisiEurope
- Simon Leeming – head of sales, Waterfront Publishing
- Stuart Leven – vice president EMEA and managing director, Royal Caribbean International
- Dave Mills – vice president and global supply director, Iglu.com
- Tony Roberts, CLIA UK & Ireland chair, UK & Europe vice president Princess Cruises
- Graham Sadler – managing director, Regent Seven Seas Cruises
- Robbie White – head of cruise product, Touchdown

By giving families a chance to enjoy a short break or day trip, Family Holiday Association can make significant difference to their current and future lives.

For children especially, a simple trip to the seaside offers the chance to paddle in the sea, build a sandcastle or fly a kite for the first time.”
CLIA UK & Ireland have released a charity single in support of Family Holiday Association. Named ‘Do They Know it’s Cruisemas?’ the parody single can be purchased for £3. All proceeds go to the charity.
