Strictly Come Dancing is a firm favourite in the UK with millions tuning in on Saturday nights to watch the talented professional dancers and their enthusiastic celebrity partners sashay across the dance floor. As themed cruises go, this seems to be growing in popularity with ocean and river cruise options now available for Strictly fans. In this article, I take a look at the options for Strictly Come Dancing cruises in 2020.
UPDATE: Since writing this blog post, the Covid-19 pandemic has meant that cruises have been temporarily suspended. Many of the cruises mentioned have been cancelled or could be cancelled. These cruises are likely to be offered during 2021 or when cruising resumes. This post will be updated when new dates are published.
Strictly Come Ocean Cruising
P&O have the official rights to use the Strictly Come Dancing name on for selected cruises in 2020:
- Ventura N006: 14 nights, Canary Islands from Southampton (4th – 18th April 2020)
- Britannia B014: 14 nights, Mediterranean from Southampton (6th – 20th June 2020)
- Ventura N016: 7 nights, Western Europe from Southampton (20th – 27th June)
- Azura A014: 14 nights, Baltics from Southampton (12th – 26th July 2020)
It’s important to be aware that Strictly talent on board the Strictly Come Dancing cruises are subject to change.
Strictly Come Dancing fans will be dazzled and delighted by this opportunity to shimmy a little closer to the Strictly stars. On these themed cruises, passengers can meet some of the professional dancers from the 2018 series and watch fab-u-lous dance performances. Q and A sessions will be featured and even one-to-one dancing lessons can be booked. There is the option to have dinner with a Strictly pro (I wonder what they eat?) and grab a photo to be the envy of fellow Strictly Come Dancing fans.
The beautiful costumes from Strictly Come Dancing will be on display during these selected sailings. There’s the opportunity to meet the very talented people who work so hard to make the costumes dazzle on television.
Strictly Come River Cruising
In 2020, two river cruise companies are cha cha choosing to incorporate elements of Strictly into their offerings. I think ballroom dancing and European river cruising is a perfect partnership. Where better to learn the Viennese Waltz than on the Danube?
In 2020, Emerald Waterways will host Strictly Come Dancing champion, Pasha Kovalev, for an exclusive themed cruise. The 8-day ‘Rumba down the Rhine with dancing star Pasha Kovalev’ river cruise, starts from £1,720.
Pasha took part in his final Strictly Come Dancing series in 2018 before saying a final farewell on Strictly’s Professionals UK Tour in 2019.
The river cruise includes special experiences to make this itinerary one to spoil and delight Strictly fans and all those who love to dance. There promises to be exclusive events onboard, including a private dance performance at the spectacular Electoral Palace in Koblenz. Here, passengers will enjoy a drinks reception with plenty of photo opportunities, an interactive onboard dance masterclass to perfect your Strictly moves, as well as a special Q and A session with Pasha.
The 8-day Rumba down the Rhine with dancing star Pasha Kovalev itinerary departs from Basel (Switzerland) and calls at Breisach, Kehl, Strasbourg, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Rüdesheim, Koblenz, Cologne (Germany), and ending in Amsterdam (Netherlands). The cruise departs on 3 April 2020.
For more information and to book you can visit Emerald Waterways or call 0808 301 3352. T&C’s apply.
Former Strictly Come Dancing judge, Dame Darcey Bussell, will be boarding Scenic Crystal for a special ‘Dancing Along the Danube with Darcey Bussell and Prague’ (I know, it’s such a punchy title). Most famously known for being principal dancer for the Royal Ballet, Darcey Bussell is no stranger to cruises and is even the Godmother of P&O’s ship, Azura.
Passengers will have the chance to attend an exclusive event at the opulent Palais Lichtenstein in Vienna. Dame Darcey Bussell will introduce each set of dancers and describe what the audience is about to see. The performances are likely to include ballet and classic Viennese Waltz.
The Telegraph’s dance critic, Mark Monahan, will also be onboard for the last night of this river cruise for an exclusive afternoon of entertainment. Mark will put questions to Dame Darcey about her life and dance career. Afterwards, the pair will take part in a Q and A session.
The 10-day trip will incorporate a 3-night stay in Prague before being transferred to the ship in Nuremburg.
Strictly Come Dancing Cruises 2020
If you’re a Strictly Come Dancing fan, a themed cruise is a great choice. P&O certainly have the most on offer and all sailings are from Southampton for the no-fly option. Those wanting a more intimate cruise with a star from Strictly may want to opt for a river cruise. Strictly Come Dancing cruises offer you the opportunity to meet the stars and learn more about behind the scenes of the popular TV series.
2021 dates will be added to this post when they are released.
