P&O: The Glass House Menu 2020

P&O Cruises is a beloved cruise line amongst British cruisers. I was fortunate to cruise the Caribbean on Britannia in January 2020 from Barbados. In this post, I share information and my thoughts on The Glass House.

About The Glass House

The Glass House is a specialty dining venue on Britannia. It’s also onboard P&O’s Aurora, Azura, and Ventura and will be featured on the new Iona cruise ship. Pricing for food and drink is al a carte but if you have the drinks package, you can use it here. It’s a less expensive option in comparison to other specialty dining onboard Britannia such as Sindhu or The Epicurean.

The Glass House on Britannia is located on Deck 7 of the Atrium. Its position enables you to enjoy a relaxing drink and a bite to eat. If you sit closer to the Atrium, you can listen to the entertainment in the Atrium. We gravitated to this area on several evenings during our cruise for a quiet drink and chat with friends.

The menu meticulously pairs light, tapas-style dishes with a selection of wines that cannot be enjoyed anyway else on the ship. British TV presenter and wine expert, Olly Smith, has had a hand in the menu so it’s fair to say that some thought has gone into the food and drink on offer.

A quick tour from Olly Smith

The Glass House is open from 11.00am to 11.00pm. During my cruise, it was quiet during the day but got busy in the evenings. My advice would be to enjoy lunch here. If you would like to dine in the evening, you should pick your times wisely as reservations cannot be made. I’m sure the itinerary has an influence on it’s peak times. On my Caribbean cruise, the majority of passengers were on outside decks during the day but a Baltic cruise may bring more people inside. It’s also worth visiting on port days when the ship is quieter.

The Glass House Food Menus

I am kicking myself that I didn’t note down all of the prices on the food menu. Prices start from around £5.25 for three small dishes. A steak starts at £5.50 and crab sliders are £4.95. The pricing is al a carte but very reasonable for the quality of the food on offer.

You can check out some example menus, to see if there’s anything that takes your fancy.

Gavin and Luke from Holidays at Sea have enjoyed The Glass House on various P&O ships and took a short cruise on Britannia following its refit in 2019.

Keep an eye out for discounts at The Glass House throughout your cruise, with the best savings witnessed towards the end of our cruise.

The Glass House Drinks Menu 2020

While I was onboard Britannia, I did manage to take photos of the 2020 drinks menu at The Glass House. The menu includes prosecco, wine flights of three 100ml glasses and a small selection of ales.

Final Thoughts

The Glass House on Britannia is a relaxed dining venue that can be a refreshing change from the busy lunch time buffet or formal main dining rooms. Great thought has been given to the food and wine menus. I like the small plates available here as you can try several dishes without overindulging.

This venue is well-positioned in the Atrium to create a sociable atmosphere with entertainment throughout the evening on Deck 5.

The wine flights are perfect for sampling new wines and the drinks list doesn’t scrimp on detailed descriptions of each item. This venue is very well-suited to those who appreciate wine and good food.
