Here are my 50+ free things to do on Regal Princess! Sea days are great opportunities to relax and take advantage of the cruise ship’s amenities. There’s no risk of boredom on board as there are plenty of options to choose from. Cruises are excellent value for money because there is so much included in the cruise fare. You don’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy your time on Regal Princess.

Free Wellness Activities on Regal Princess

There are several free wellness activities on Regal Princess to help you relax, unwind and feel good on your cruise. If you don’t want to spend money on spa treatments, then there is an abundance of complimentary options available.

1. Take a stroll on the walking track

Walk off the extra calories whilst taking in the sea views on the walking track located on Deck 18 (Sports Deck). Six laps is equal to one mile. Dotted around the walking track is exercise equipment that you can use to break up your workout. This is particularly good if you prefer to exercise outside.

2. Morning Zumba class

An energising way to start a sea day on Regal Princess is to join the free Zumba class. The music is sure to put you in vacation mode and the class is designed for all abilities. If the weather is good, the class is held outside in the sports court so you can enjoy a cool sea breeze. You may also find it in the Piazza.

3. Line dancing

If Zumba doesn’t interest you, it’s typically followed by a line dancing class. If you are feeling energetic, you could even stay for both classes. This is a popular free activity to do on Regal Princess so a word of warning that it can get busy. During the cruise you may also find a Country and Western Line Dance Party in the Piazza to show off your moves.

4. Escape to the Retreat

The Retreat is a free adult-only area towards the front of the ship. This is a quiet area, which feels like you should be paying extra – but there is no additional fee. There are shaded cabanas that can be rented for half a day but the standard sun loungers are available without the need to reserve. The Retreat is much more peaceful area away from the main lido pools and offers a feeling of exclusivity without the price tag.

5. Relax in a hot tub

There are several hot tubs (at least six I counted) in pool areas that can offer a moment of relaxation. The teen area even has it’s own jacuzzi for exclusive use. For the best chance of having a hot tub to yourself, I’d recommend trying at the beginning or end of the day or during port days when most passengers are off the ship.

6. Hit the gym

The gym is free to use on Regal Princess and is huge! There are multiple cardio machines facing out to sea so you can enjoy the view while you work out. There is an aerobics studio space to do your own exercise, resistance equipment and free weights.

7. Lotus Spa tours

At the start of your cruise on Regal Princess, tours of the Lotus Spa include a free massage taster. If you don’t want to splash out on expensive spa treatments, this is a chance to take a look around this part of the ship and enjoy a mini massage.

Keep your eye out on the Princess Patter for free massage taster sessions during the cruise. This is another way to try out the treatments at no additional fee.

8. Win Spa Treatments

Look out for the Lotus Spa Grand Raffle for the chance to win spa ‘credits’ that you can use during your cruise. Up to $500 worth of spa treatments could be won so don’t miss entering. The daily Princess Patter will provide details but it’s likely to be on embarkation day.

9. Free foot analysis

Yes, this is a sales ploy but there’s nothing stopping you from attending a session and getting a free foot analysis. It can be helpful in understanding how you walk, especially if you suffer from back or knee pain.

There are daily health and wellbeing sessions throughout the cruise to help you learn about things such as acupuncture and reflexology. There are a few freebies available to those who attend.

10. Swim in one of Regal Princess’s pools

You can choose to swim in any of the freshwater pools on board Regal Princess, why not try them all? There are two pools for swimming and two plunge pools to help you cool off or taking in the views of the wake.

11. Play in the Sports Court

On Deck 18 you will find the Center Court, a space to play basketball or football with the family and burn off some energy. This area has organised activities at certain times of the day (Zumba is sometimes held here) but is available to use by anyone when not in use.

Free Games and Competitions on Regal Princess

Throughout the day on Regal Princess, you will find ample opportunities to get involved in fun games, activities and competitions. It’s a great way to meet fellow passengers and try something new. There is no entry fee for any of these activities.

12. Trivia with friends

You will find trivia sessions morning, afternoon and evening on Regal Princess. Most of the time it will be general trivia but look out for special trivia events such as sports, music or Discovery at Sea trivia.

13. Take part in a game show

Regal Princess has it’s own studio called Princess Live of Deck 7, which hosts live game shows as well as late night comedy, culinary demonstrations and screenings. Some of the game shows involve audience participation or you can sit back and watch shows like the Marriage Match Game Show.

14. Ocean Play

Ocean Play is a series of interactive family-friendly games available on touch screens around the ship. You can access Ocean Play with your OceanMedallion and choose riddles and challenges to complete by yourself or with others.

15. Clay shooting

On days gone by, cruise ships offered clay shooting off the back of the ship but Regal Princess offers clay shooting simulator sessions. Participants must be 18 years and older and places should be booked with the cruise director’s staff to avoid disappointment.

16. Shuffleboard and ring toss

Shuffleboard competitions are held on the Lawn Court on Deck 19. It’s a traditional cruise ship game that you will find on many ships. If you’ve never played before, it’s a free opportunity to give it a go.

Ring toss competitions are sometimes held indoors if the weather isn’t so good or if you want a break from the sun.

17. Lawn bowls games

The Lawn Court also hosts lawn bowls. If you enjoy a little bit of friendly competition with a slower pace, this is perfect to relax and test your skills.

18. Table Tennis Competitions

Get your ping pong game on during fun competitions held throughout the cruise on Regal Princess.

19. Hole in one competition

Regal Princess has a putting green on Deck 19 so golfers can still enjoy the game at sea. Equipment is provided so there’s no need to worry about packing clubs!

20. Batting cage sessions

A portable batting cage offers baseball fans the opportunity to practise their swing during fun sessions held throughout the cruise. Training shoes should be worn for this activity held on the sports court.

21. Adult wild, wet and wacky pool games

Whether you take part or merely watch the spectacle, the pool games are fun. The cruise director’s staff organise games and races. This is a great way for solo cruisers to meet others as there’s no need to enter this as a team. The games usually take place in and around the Fountain Pool on the Lido Deck.

22. Meet others for Bridge and board games

This is not a hosted activity but the Allegro Dining Room is made available at certain times throughout the cruise for you to play with fellow passengers. Equipment is available so all you need to do is check the times in the daily Princess Patter paper.

23. Have a free flutter

The Princess Casino offers free gaming lessons to learn how to use the casino tables. This means you can learn the ropes and have a try without losing any money!

24. $1,000 Treasure hunt

Take a tour of Regal Princess to collect seven stamps and enter a draw to win $1,000. A collection card can be picked up from one of the onboard shops, details of when and where it will take place will be in the Princess Patter. One lucky person will win.

25. Guess the… art

You can enter a free competition to win art from the gallery. It’s ‘guess the weight of the sculpture’ or ‘guess the price of the painting’ type competition but worth a free entry. I’ve known people to sell art they’ve bought on a cruise to pay for their next cruise.

Free Drinks on Regal Princess

Princess Cruises is not an all-inclusive cruise line. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased individually, with Princess Plus or a drinks package. Complimentary drinks on Regal Princess include:

• Lemonade
• Iced tea
• Water
• Tea and coffee

But, there are a few occasions when you can snag a free glass of bubbly or sample some drinks without needing to pay.

26. Shopping Events

On Regal Princess there are special shopping events where they hand out free champagne or cocktails. You can pop along for a browse and quaff some champers.

27. Free Drink with the Captain

On the first formal night of the cruise, don’t miss out on the Captain’s Champagne Waterfall. It’s an opportunity to see the Captain and ship’s officers whilst enjoying a free glass of sparkling wine. A huge tower of champagne glasses is erected in the Piazza and you can pour champagne on to the tower for a photo opportunity.

This is a special tradition on Princess Cruises ships that happens on the first formal of the cruise.

28. Cocktail making demonstrations

Cocktail demonstrations are great fun to watch as the bar staff show off their flamboyant juggling skills. Willing passengers can also give it a try, with a free cocktail as the reward.

Free Cultural & Special Interest Activities on Regal Princess

If you like to keep yourself occupied and enjoy learning new things, you will find a range of free enrichment activities on Regal Princess. Avid crafters and those looking to learn something new will be please to find daily free activities in the Princess Patter.

29. Free art talks

There are opportunities during the cruise to learn more about the artwork and artists during special onboard talks.

30. Princess Pop Choir

You can join the passengers’ choir at the start of a cruise and meet for rehearsals. There’s a special performance for friends and family at the end of the cruise. It’s a fun way to learn new songs and meet others, regardless of your singing ability, there’s a definite social element to this activity.

31. Ballroom Dancing

If you enjoy ballroom dancing or would like to learn, complimentary daily classes are available on Regal Princess. Each sea day a new dance is learnt, so by the end of the cruise you’ll have picked up the basic steps in a range of styles including the Salsa, Merengue and Rhumba.

If you don’t have a dance partner, don’t worry, you will be paired up with a fellow passenger or one of the instructors.

32. Regal Princess craft activities

Princess Cruises is very good at offering themed craft sessions to compliment the destinations of your cruise. Craft workshops are held on sea days for anyone wanting to try their hand at a new craft, like origami. There are also special Festivals of the World craft sessions that are themed around particular festivals. Princess offer different activities depending on the time of year and destination you cruise:

• Rio Carnival (January to March) – traditional headdress decorating class
• Caribbean Festival (October to April) – mask and Mola needlework
• Carnaval de Panama (October – April) – Mola arts and crafts
• King Kamehameha Festival (October – May) – make Hawaiian flower leis
• Mexican Fiesta (October – April) – Aztec flower making and decorating marzipan skulls

33. Knit and natter sessions

These knitting sessions are not hosted, but offer the chance for you to meet with fellow passengers who enjoy knitting. You will need to bring your own project with you but it’s a good way to get ideas from other knitters and have a chat.

34. Chess challenge

Chess boards are made available for unhosted games during your Regal Princess cruise. During the day, chess is held in Club 6, the ship’s nightclub. This is a nice quiet venue during the day.

35. Movies Under the Stars

One of my favourite things to do on Regal Princess is watch a Movie Under the Stars. It’s been replicated by other cruise lines but Princess does a particularly good job.

During the day, family films and concerts are screened, as well as short quizzes that you can join in with from your sun lounger.

At night, blankets and padded headrests are laid out on the sun loungers with ice cream and popcorn available from Swirls on the Lido Deck. With the latest OceanMedallion technology, you could order food and drink to be delivered directly to your lounger – almost like a drive-in movie!

If you have a busy evening planned, you can watch the Movies Under the Stars film in your stateroom from the next day onwards.

36. Attend an enrichment lecture

Guest speakers share their expertise and knowledge on a variety of subjects. There are usually lectures about each port of call on your itinerary and I’d recommend attending these to learn about the history and culture of a destination. If you happen to miss a live lecture, port and destination talks are available on demand on your stateroom TV.

Princess Cruises has partnered with the Discovery Channel to offer Discovery Encounters presenters. These experts are onboard to offer you an insight into the region, destinations and natural wildlife. One Discovery at Sea activity to particularly look out for is stargazing because it’s a unique experience to enjoy at sea with minimal light pollution.

37. Free ship tour of Regal Princess

You can choose to pay for an Ultimate Ship Tour on Regal Princess but it’s worth knowing that parts of this tour are available free of charge to all passengers.

There is a free orientation tour of the ship at the beginning of the cruise to help you get your bearings but you can also take behind-the-scenes tour of the galley and theatre at different times during the cruise. The galley walkthrough is available at the end of the culinary demonstration in the Princess Theater. Check your daily Princess Patter to avoid missing out on this interesting insight into life on a cruise ship.

38. Chocolate Journeys Demonstration

If you love chocolate and want to learn how to incorporate it into your cooking, I’d suggest attending a Chocolate Journeys demonstration. The expert pastry chef on Regal Princess will show how a series of dishes can be created, with delicious results.

39. Find a good book to enjoy

The library on Regal Princess is situated on Deck 7 and has a selection of fiction and non-fiction books to borrow for the duration of your cruise. Enjoy reading by the pool or in Club 6, a quiet spot during the day.

Free Entertainment on Regal Princess

On Regal Princess, you can find entertainment suitable for all ages and tastes. All onboard entertainment is free so there’s no need to worry about limiting your options. Here are some ideas of entertainment you’ll find on the ship.

40. Princess Theater

The theatre onboard Regal Princess seats 925 people and hosts shows every evening. You can catch a different performance each night, which is just one of the free things to do on Regal Princess in the evenings.

‘Fiera!’ takes you on a journey to the fairground, and ‘Bravo… A Regal Celebration’ is a celebration of lights, musical theatre and p’opera. Two other shows to watch are ‘Spectacular!’ and ‘Sweet Soul Music’.

In the theatre you can also enjoy ‘The Voice of the Ocean’ based on the popular TV show, which puts the passengers in the spotlight. This was a fun show and I particularly loved the use of the spinning chairs.

41. Entertainment in the Piazza

Throughout the day, there is entertainment in Regal Princess’s atrium, known as the Piazza. In the morning, you can watch demonstrations, music in the afternoon and dancing and in the evenings. Special guest performers are likely to be seen here and it’s always worth walking through to see what’s going on.

42. Dancing Fountains

On the Lido Deck are water fountains positioned between the two swimming pools. At night, you can enjoy a light and water show set to music and it’s a nice excuse to get some fresh air after dinner.

43. Enjoy listening to the singer at Crooners Bar

Enjoy the comfy seating and piano music in Crooners. The singer usually takes song requests and draws a regular crowd each night.

44. Grab the mic for karaoke

Late night karaoke is offered in the Vista Lounge at the aft of Deck 7. You can listen to some really talented singers and those with plenty of enthusiasm!

45. Watch the Wake Show

The daily Wake Show is available to watch on your stateroom TV and gives you a summary of what’s happening on Regal Princess each day. You are introduced to different members of the crew throughout the cruise and the highlights of things to do on the ship.

46. Club 6 nightclub

Situated behind Bellini’s and adjacent to the casino, Club 6 is a stylish venue that becomes the ship’s nightclub in the evening. This is the place to come if want to let your hair down and have a dance.

47. Guest performers

During your cruise on Regal Princess, you are likely to have the chance to watch some guest performers in the theatre and lounges. Singers, tribute acts, comedians and magicians supplement the onboard entertainment and offer a greater variety of acts. Some of the performers are from the destinations visited on the cruise.

48. Sailaway and deck parties

A fun way to celebrate the start of your cruise on Regal Princess is the Sailaway party. Out on the open decks there is music and entertainment to get you in the holiday mood. Throughout the cruise there are deck parties on particular evenings and the entertainment team are there to get everyone dancing.

There are a few free things to do on Regal Princess that I’d like to add here. These are nice little extras that you can enjoy on your cruise without needing to charge them to you cruise account.

51. Treat yourself to Afternoon Tea

Princess Cruises offers a Royal Afternoon tea for $10 per person or $20 with champagne but a free afternoon tea experience is also available. Check the Princess Patter to see time and location, it’s usually 3.30pm to 4.30pm in the Concerto Dinning Room.

52. SeaWalk

The SeaWalk is the first of its kind at sea and offers a different perspective with its glass floor. The glass walkway is 60 feet long and takes you 28 feet beyond the edge of the ship. This may not be for everyone but it’s a unique feature of Royal class ships.

53. Best pizza at sea

When is a specialty restaurant not a specialty restaurant? When it’s complimentary!

It’s surprising that Alfredo’s is free to all passengers but with pizza that good, I’m not complaining. Alfredo’s on Regal is a good size and you can watch the pizzas being made in its open kitchen. There is no charge to dine here so if you are looking for a casual dining option, it’s an excellent choice.

54. International Cafe

Whilst some other cruise lines charge you for food in their cafe, the food at the International Cafe is completely free of charge and better still, it’s open 24 hours. This is one of my favourite things on Regal Princess and their breakfast pastries in particular are superb.

55. Free children’s Clubs on Regal Princess

Princess Cruises offers three age categories of kids clubs in partnership with the Discover Channel, with children being able to participate without a parent from 3 years old and older:

• The Treehouse (3-7 years)
• The Lodge (8-12 years)
• The Beach House (13 – 17 years)

There’s an excellent range of free activities for children and young people to enjoy with Princess Cruises.

56. Love Boat horn

All Royal class Princess ships have the Love Boat horn and I first heard it on Regal Princess. You can hear it on most sailaways and still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

57. Free room service

Complimentary room service on Regal Princess is available 24 hours a day. There is no service charge (except for pizza) so I’d recommend taking advantage of this at least once on your cruise.

You can order a continental breakfast on a port day if you have and early start but I’d also recommend trying the Club Sandwich. There are soups, sandwiches, hotdogs, burgers, chilli, lasagna and desserts so you could choose to enjoy a quiet meal in your cabin if you’ve had a long day.

Final Thoughts

In reality, the cruise fare includes the cost of many things on Regal Princess. This post highlights the many things that you don’t have to pay extra to enjoy. You can do so many things onboard before needing to put your hand in your pocket.

Cruising can sometimes be perceived as an expensive holiday but I don’t agree. Your cruise fare includes so much such as your food, accommodation, entertainment, activities and most venues. You can keep within your budget and spend on the things that you love. If you want to eat at the specialty dining restaurants, you can. If you fancy a bit of pampering in the spa, you can. The choice is yours.
